Get Your Supplies Together
Take medication out of the refrigerator approximately 2-3 hours before dose time.
Saline Flush
Flush line with prefilled saline syringe before infusion.
Administer Meds
Administer the medication.
Saline Flush
Flush line with prefilled saline syringe after medication infusion.
Heparin Flush
Flush line with prefilled heparin syringe to prevent clotting.
Remember!
Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap before you begin.
Contact Your Nurse If You Experience Any Of The Following With Your IV:
- Pain at site
- Redness at site
- Swelling or hardness around site
- Heat at site
- Leaking or drainage around site or dressing
Flush the line not in use with normal saline and heparin once daily.
